Sax Software Announces Sax mPower for Exchange
Brings the power of Visual Basic to Microsoft Exchange and
creates zero-administration enterprise applications.
EUGENE, Ore. — January 15, 1997 — Sax Software today announced the release of
Sax mPower for Exchange, the first development platform that allows developers to create
both 16- and 32-bit Exchange e-forms applications in the familiar Visual Basic environment.
Included with Sax mPower are the Sax mPower Enterprise Solutions: powerful,
customizable Exchange applications — including Help Desk, Fax Annotation, and Voice
Mail — that include complete Visual Basic source code and give corporate developers
instant value.
With Sax mPower, mail messages are no longer passive items of information: Instead,
they’re intelligent, interactive applications that travel across the enterprise and help increase
your productivity. Sax mPower distributes applications automatically, including ActiveX
controls and other dependent files, so distributing an application is as easy as sending an
e-mail message.
Because Sax mPower applications are developed in Visual Basic, corporate developers
can maximize their investments in training and third-party custom controls and more easily
convert existing Visual Basic applications into groupware.
"Sax mPower combines the multiple-platform support and easy administration of Intranet
technology with the maturity and extensive database support of traditional client-server
computing, " says Mike Sax, president of Sax Software. "Corporate developers can use
their existing code and favorite development tools while enjoying the advantages of
zero-maintenance applications and instant deployment of their applications across the
enterprise."
Sax mPower has been received enthusiastically by the ActiveX component industry. The
industry’s leading ActiveX control vendors have pledged support for Sax mPower, and
sample applications that ship with Sax mPower demonstrate the use of such third-party
controls. Sax mPower Component partners include Apex Software, LEAD Technologies,
Seagate Software, Sheridan Software, and VideoSoft.
Because Sax mPower can create both 16-bit and 32-bit e-form applications, the
applications created can be used in all current Exchange e-mail client software: the 16-bit
and 32-bit Exchange mail clients, and the new Microsoft Outlook 97 client. By merging the
Visual Basic development environment with Microsoft Outlook 97, Sax mPower provides
Outlook with full database connectivity, advanced scripting and debugging capabilities, and
support for sophisticated workflow routing.
